Lawrence County (Tennessee)

Lawrence County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lawrenceburg.

Geography

The County is located in southern Tennessee, bordering Alabama and has an area of 1600 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lewis County, Maury County, Giles County, Lauderdale County ( Alabama) and Wayne County.

History

Lawrence County was formed on October 21, 1817 from parts of Hickman County and Maury County. It was named after James Lawrence, a naval officer who with the saying: was the British -American War of 1812, after he had been mortally wounded, known as " Do not give up the ship ."
