Lawrence H. Aller

Lawrence Hugh Aller ( * September 24, 1913 in Tacoma, † 16 March 2003) was an American astronomer.

He was born in Tacoma, Washington. He never graduated from high school and worked occasionally as a gold prospector. His Doctor of Science in 1943, he earned at Harvard. At the University of Michigan, he was appointed professor of astronomy in 1960 until he moved to the University of California, Berkeley, order to set up the astronomy department. In 1992, he won the Henry Norris Russell Lectureship.

Focus area of his work was the chemical composition of stars and nebulae.
