Lawrence Tibbett

Lawrence Tibbett Mervil ( born November 16, 1896 in Bakersfield, † July 15, 1960 in New York) was an American baritone.

Life

Lawrence Tibbett was born in Bakersfield, California. Already at the age of 27 he was hired in 1923 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he remained connected until 1948.

One of the most famous roles of Lawrence Tibbett included the Simon Boccanegra and Ford in Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi.

In the 1930s, Lawrence Tibbett also appeared as an actor in Hollywood films, for the first time in the operetta adaptation bandits song ( The Rogue Song) by Franz Lehar's Gypsy Love.

Lawrence Tibbett died in 1960 in New York following a traffic accident.
