Lawrence Weingarten

Lawrence Weingarten ( born December 30, 1897 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, † February 5, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, USA) was an American film producer.

Life

Vineyard first and only experience on camera was the silent film Bitter Sweet of 1916, in which he was seen in a small role. But the experience must have been disappointing for the 20 -year-old, so that in future he focused as a producer on the work behind the camera.

So he began his work in the post-war period as a publicist for various film studios until he was taken in 1924 by the Metro -Goldwyn -Mayer newly founded under contract. He was promoted by Irving Thalberg, worked for the vineyard as an assistant and co-producer. Thus Weingarten could work his way up to production manager until 1929. During this time his marriage to Thalberg's sister Sylvia fell.

Weingarten, who produced mainly comedies, was nominated in the course of his three -decade career twice for the Academy Award for Best Picture, but always went home empty-handed. Only in 1974, he was awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, an honorary Oscar, who is dedicated to his patron and brother- excellent. Among his best-known film is one of the 1958 comedy film produced Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, for which Weingarten Elizabeth Taylor won as the lead actress.

Lawrence Weingarten died a little over a month after his 77th birthday with leukemia.
