Layover

A stopover is in the field of air transport, a deliberately been overflown waypoint on a route. The term is generally used only for long stops or stops with an overnight stay, but not for the transfers. Also, changing by several hours stay is not designated as a stopover.

24 hours or more must be spent on the intermediate target inter-arrival and onward journey, so it is a stopover. Anything less, even at night at the intermediate target is denoted by Via.
