Laza Lazarević

Laza Lazarević Kuzman (. Serb.: Лаза К Лазаревић ) (. .. . * 1 Maijul / 13 May 1851greg in Sabac, † 29 December 1890jul / 10 January 1891greg in Belgrade ) was a Serbian writer and physician.

Life

Lazarević studied medicine in Berlin. He interrupted his studies twice to work in military hospitals during the wars with the Turks and Bulgarians in Serbia ( 1875-1878 ). After completing his degree in Berlin, he published numerous studies, particularly in the field of neurology. He was appointed to the Serbian royal court and a member of the Royal Academy.

Works

Lazarević wrote some short stories, who are numbered among the Serbian realism. He initially began in his youth under the influence of the progressive idea of Chernyshevsky, but changed soon to the advocates of traditional patriarchal Serbian society ( zadruga ), whose stories usually begin realistic, but then progressively learn an idealistic turn in the course of the story. Certain moralizing and didactic tendencies are unmistakable. Nevertheless Lazarević also shows shortcomings and vulnerabilities. His plan for, and composition of the narratives that focus on the essentials, a dramatic talent and a quiet style earned him the nickname of " Serbian Turgenev " one. Most stories are village stories in his tales of intellectuals and their lost individuality on the other hand ( Vetar - wind; Verter - Werther; Švabica - The German ) show psychological interpretations.
