Lazar Mojsov

Lazar Mojsov ( Macedonian Лазар Мојсов; born December 19, 1920 in Negotino; † August 25, 2011 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslavian journalist, politician and diplomat. He was President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Chairman of the Presidium of the SFR Yugoslavia and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia.

Life

Mojsov completed his studies at the Belgrade Faculty of Law with a doctorate degree before he fought against the German occupation during the Second World War as a partisan and a member of the Anti- Fascist Council of National Liberation of Yugoslavia. After the Second World War, he quickly made ​​his career as a member of the Macedonian National Association of the Communist Party; 1945-1958 ( and again from 1964 to 1967 ) he was a member of the Yugoslav Parliament; Moreover 1948-1951 Minister of Justice of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. 1953-58 he was the President before the Supreme Court of the Yugoslav Republic.

Subsequently, he was appointed to the diplomatic service; first as ambassador to the USSR and Mongolia (1958-1961), and later in Austria (1967-1969) and at the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as permanent representative at the United Nations, as well as Ambassador to Guyana and Jamaica ( 1969-1974 ). In connection he was first deputy 1974-1982 and later Foreign Minister of Yugoslavia 1982-1984. From 1984 to 1989 he was a member of the Presidential Council of his home and in 1987-88 president of the Presidium of the SFRY and thus nominal head of state of Yugoslavia.
