Lazy Lester

Lazy Lester ( born June 20, 1933, Torras, Louisiana as Leslie Johnson ) is an American harmonica player.

Biography

As a child he worked at a gas station, lumberjacks and in a business where he earned his first harmonica and Little Walter's " Juke ". One of his brothers had a guitar that he played well. When his influences called Lazy Lester Jimmy Reed and Little Walter, but also country music, especially Jimmie Rodgers, he loved. Towards the end of his second decade of life, he played as a harmonica player in a band called the Rhythm Rockers.

When a bus mid-1950s he met Lightnin 'Slim, for whom he played at a recording session. Producer Jay Miller was impressed by this collaboration so that he will be recording debut in 1957 enabled him to Excello ( " I'm Gonna Leave You Baby " b / w " Lester's Stomp "). Miller also gave him his nickname Lazy Lester for his laconic, relaxed style. Lester now remained for a decade Excello artist. If he was not even the leading artist, he played on many recordings as a session musician, in addition to the harmonica, he played guitar and arranged numbers. After the dissolution of the contract with Excello he took various day jobs until, in 1971, again with its discoverer Lightnin 'Slim teamed up.

2003 Martin Scorsese took him into his Blues Tribute Concert at Radio City Music Hall, where he worked with BB King, Solomon Burke, Clarence " Gatemouth " Brown, Buddy Guy, Levon Helm, Chuck D, The Neville Brothers, Dr. John, John Fogerty and Aerosmith occurred.

He currently lives in Paradise, California.
