LDE(X)

LDE (X) is one of the most mature LiteStep distributions that has been continuously developed since 1999. Your public debut had the software with LDE R4 in October 1999. Edition LDE -X R1.0 brought in 2000 a major change in the approach itself. The software was available as free software under the terms of the GPL since the beginning of development and currently runs only on the Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP operating systems.

LDE was originally created to offer users of the Common Desktop Environment, CDE short, an easy to understand user interface under Windows NT can, and was intended from the beginning for universities and companies. To date, it has developed into a much more complex system based on a framework, based in turn on the Microsoft Windows Script ( JavaScript) code and the script code used by LiteStep. The framework also supports the languages Python and Lua. This wide-ranging support was a deliberate objective of the development team, because as extensions to the system by other developers without problems can be contributed. Multi-language support is also offered by the system, although it is not the ideal solution due to the associated with LiteStep restrictions.

The framework simplifies common tasks by offering individual scripts. A typical example of the basis of the framework is that each author of a traditional LiteStep theme ( UI ) either its own code to save settings had to write to files or had to ask the user to edit the code directly. The LDE developers decided that would be an easy-to -use thing and enrolled in this and other cases scripts that can customize the core framework of LDE (X).

The framework also supports the Open Theme standard, which currently is in version 2 and is used by the LiteStep community. This was a desired feature by users that allows such themes to incorporate parts of the LDE (X) SDK to expand their opportunities when they are running on LDE (X).

The user interface is running in the framework and can even upload extensions (plugins ) from a common repository for all users.

LDE (X) is accompanied by a program called OpenLDE that allows it to LDE -based projects to be quickly recognized as LDE derivative.
