Le Ban-Saint-Martin

Le Ban -Saint -Martin is a commune with 4257 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The Municipality of Le Ban -Saint -Martin is bordered to the north and east by the city of Metz. In the south of the municipality extends to the Mosel.

History

The place dates back to a Benedictine monastery dating from the 7th century, which was dedicated to Saint Martin Saint. 870 she was court of the Duchy of Lorraine, and was occupied with Metz in 1552 and annexed by France.

By the Peace of Frankfurt, the city came to Germany in 1871, the population rose rapidly from 385 ( 1871) on 2500 inhabitants (1900), had moved to in the majority German. From 1914-1918 the town was the German name Sankt Martin spell, she fell in November 1918, back to France.

During World War II, much of the French population was from the German civil administration distributed and incorporated into the city under the name Martin spell to Metz. This was taken after the liberation of the end of 1944 to reverse.
