Le Barboux

Le Barboux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Le Barboux is located on 937 m, 11 km northeast of Morteau and about 9 km west of the town of La Chaux -de-Fonds (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the southwest of the plateaus of Maîche, at the northern foot of the ridge of Mont Devoir north of Doubstals.

The area of ​​11.26 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Maîche, which is on average 930 m. It is mainly consisted of meadows and pastures, but also shows some small areas of forest (Les Cornaix and Cerneux au boeuf ). The slightly undulating surface is characterized by several wells and septic sinks with sinkholes. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To the north- east of the district is sufficient ground on the heights of Chaillot and La Pré Borme (1001 m). In the south the plateau is flanked by broad ridge of Mont Devoir, on with 1087 m the highest peak of Le Barboux is achieved. This ridge forms in geological- tectonic respects an anticlinal folds of the Jura and is oriented southwest-northeast direction according to the strike of the mountains in this region. It is bounded on the south by the Doubs Valley, the community area non reaches down quite to the Doubs.

At Le Barboux addition to the actual site also includes the hamlet of La Partie de Bise ( 962 m) in a trough at the northern foot of Mont Devoir and various individual courtyards. Neighboring communities of Le Barboux are Le Russey in the north, Grand'Combe -des- Bois in the east, Villers -le- Lac to the south and La Chenalotte and Narbief in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Le Barboux belonged successively to the dominions Réaumont and Vennes. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

By January 1, 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Montbeliard, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The construction of the church Saint- Renobert in the Renaissance style was begun in 1517. The bell tower dates from the 19th century. The church has a rich interior, including statues from the 16th century and an altar from the 18th century. Scattered through the Jura hills there are several farmhouses in the characteristic style of the Haut-Doubs, in particular the court Les Lessus (17th century).

Population

With 243 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Le Barboux one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 299 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid- 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Le Barboux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is from the main road D437 ( Montbéliard Morteau ) easily accessible. Road links exist with Narbief, Grand'Combe -des- Bois and Villers -le- Lac.
