Le Boulou

Le Boulou (in Catalan El Voló ) is a commune with 5498 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Orientales of the Languedoc -Roussillon region. It is located south of Perpignan on the river Tech in the northern Pyrenees.

Attractions

The most significant attraction is the church of Sainte Marie in the 11th century, with its portal in white marble from the nearby Ceret.

It is surmounted by a frieze, which is supported by seven consoles. These are works by the Master of Cabestany, an anonymous sculptor of the 12th century. The scenes described from left to right a few episodes from the childhood of Jesus: the Annunciation to the shepherds, the birth, the Presentation in the Temple, the Adoration of the Magi, the flight into Egypt and the local shelter.
