Le Cannet-des-Maures
Le Cannet -des- Maures ( Provençal Lo Canet Canet dei dei Maura's or Lou Mauro ) is a commune with 4128 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.
Geography
Le Cannet -des- Maures is located in a wide plain at the foot of the 405 m high Montagne de Recoux. The soil is red and rich in bauxite. The valley is drained by the river Réal Martin, Riau Tort and Aille. On the south side of the valley, the hills planted with pine Balacan whose highest peak, Pic Martin, 396 m rise achieved.
History
Finds from the Iron Age to document colonization of the area of Le Cannet -des- Maures since prehistoric times.
Attractions
The Romanesque parish church of Saint -Michel in the old village center was built in the 11th century. It is classified as a monument historique. Each of its three naves ending in an apse, whose vault converge in a circular arc. The church tower was built in the 17th century and completed in the 18th century with a wrought iron campanile. Inside there is a wooden Madonna from the former chapel of Notre - Dame la Capaletto.
