Le Cendre

Le Cendre is a commune with 4801 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region. It is located about 10 km southeast of Clermont -Ferrand.

Population

Le Cendre is a suburb of Clermont -Ferrand. The small historic village core is surrounded by numerous residential neighborhoods. The suburban character comes, inter alia, by connecting to the municipal bus system and the presence of a train station expressed. Le Cendre forms a closed settlement area with the community Cournon.

Geography

The historic village is located near the creek Auzon, which flows not far from Le Cendre in the Allier. Along the railway line Clermont- Ferrand - Issoire to small businesses has settled. To the east of the village center is the excavation site Gondole ( see below).

History

The municipal area is the excavation site Gondole. This is a Gallic oppidum. After the abandonment of the settlement Corent in the 1st century BC and Gergovia Gondole were in his place before the era Augustonometum (Clermont -Ferrand ) became the focus of settlement.

Just outside the oppidum a mysterious Gallo-Roman tomb with skeletons of 8 riders were discovered with their horses at work on a bypass road in February 2002.

The banks of the Auzon were transformed into a recreational area with playgrounds, sports facilities and picnic areas in 2007. The so-called " Coulee Verte " is lined with several old mills and also runs through the town center. An extension to the Allier and after Orcet is planned.
