Le Hamel (Somme)

Le Hamel ( Picard: L' Hami ) is a northern French village with 520 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens, in the canton of Corbie and is part of the Communauté de communes du Val de Somme.

Geography

The municipality is located slightly higher up on the left bank of the Somme to the community Sailly- le -Sec on ​​the roads department D71 approximately 8 km east of Corbie. The municipal area extends south to the road department D1029 (formerly Route nationale 29). Le Hamel is a Historical Santerre. For Hamel include the Ferme de la Couture and the hamlet Bouzencort in the valley of the Somme.

History

Le Hamel is mentioned in 1184 as a possession of the abbey of Corbie. 1636 Le Hamel was devastated by Spanish troops during the siege of Corbie. On July 4, 1918, the Battle of Hamel took place here.
