Le Perrier

Le Perrier is a commune with 1864 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vendée in the Pays de la Loire; it belongs to the district of Les Sables d'Olonne and the canton of Saint -Jean -de- Monts.

Etymology

The name originated from the original name Pé ​​de Riez.

History

The region that was once covered by the sea, is today still dominated by swamps. The population of the village has preserved their own traditions. In April 1622 the place of Louis XIII was. visited. He came to fight in Saint- Hilaire -de- Riez against the Protestant army. In June 1794, the village was burned to the ground, killed the inhabitants and plundered the church. 1815, the village was the scene of Vendéekriegs between royalists and republicans.
