Le Pout

Le Pout is a commune of 512 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. The municipality is located in the catchment area of the city of Bordeaux, in the canton in the Arrondissement Bordeaux Creon.

Geography

Le Pout is in southwest France in Entre -deux-mers area between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne, 19 km east of Bordeaux, the capital of the Aquitaine region, and 2.6 kilometers north of the canton capital Creon, on an average height of 71 meters above sea level. Other neighboring municipalities are Loupes, Croignon and Sadirac. The municipality has an area of 3.93 square kilometers, on its northern border flows of Gestas, a tributary of the Dordogne.

Le Pout is a climate of type Cfb ( according to Köppen and Geiger ) assigned: Warm Temperate rain climate ( C ), fully wet ( f), the warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C ( b). There is a maritime climate with moderate summer.

Culture and sights

The church Saint -Martin was built in the 12th century. The choir was rebuilt in the 15th century. The entrance portal was established in the 16th century, the porch in the 19th century. The bell tower was rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century. The church is partially entered in the Register of Monuments historiques additional ( historical monuments '). Listed items are the decor of the interior of the church and a cemetery crucifix from the 16th century.

The Rivalan castle stands a small village north and north of the Saint-Martin church that dominates the valley of the Gestas. It was built in the 17th century for the d' Angel family. The d' Angel family had to the French Revolution (1789-1799), the domain over Le Pout. During the Fronde (1648-1653) of the royalist Charles de La Porte (1602-1664) used the palace as a base. In the 18th century stables were rebuilt. In 1792, the castle came into the possession of Rivalan family, after which it is named today. The house was rebuilt in the late 19th century. The castle is privately owned and used as a winery.
