Le Roi David

Le Roi David, with German title of King David, in the subtitle Symphonic Psalm, is an oratorio of the Swiss- French composer Arthur Honegger based on a drama by René Morax. It was initially conceived as a stage play, written within a few months and rehearsed and premiered on June 11, 1921 Jorat in Vaud place Mézières. In order to facilitate the performability Honegger and Morax have rewritten it from a stage play in an oratorio for soprano, alto, tenor, a speaker, a mixed choir and orchestra. In this version, it experienced since 1923 numerous performances.
