Le Tholy

La Bresse is a commune with 1573 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Remiremont and based on the 2003 Local Government Association Lacs et Rupts skin.

Geography

The municipality of La Bresse in the Vosges is located, approximately in the middle of the city triangle Epinal / Remiremont / Gerardmer.

The municipal area of La Bresse comprises a portion of up to 200 meters wide Cleurietales and up to 893 meters above sea level reaching mountain ridge south of the valley and the north and northwest of the core location towering mountains around 827 m high L' Ormont or the 728 m high Roches de la Moulure. The village La Bresse extends from the river bed of the Cleurie about 100 meters a southern slopes and is widely visible from the south. More than half of the 30.76 km ² large municipality area is forested. These are shares in the large contiguous forests Bois de la Charme de l' Ormont in the northwest, Forêt de Fossard in the west and Forêt de Housseramont in the south of the church. History

The name " La Bresse " could by Célestin Melin, a former teacher and local historian from La Bresse, have been derived from the French " tuile " (brick). He justifies this by the previous existence of a Tonbrennofens near the clay deposits in the Cleurietal.

The municipality was created in 1790 from the hamlets and farms around the Ban de Saint -Joseph. Saint -Joseph is the church in La Bresse, whose construction dates back to 1663 the work of the later canonized Pierre Fourier. The church burnt down in 1730 and was subsequently rebuilt. At Pierre Fourrier today still remind representations on the glass windows of the church.

La Bresse is now a tourist town with many guesthouses, hotels and holiday homes. In addition, a campsite there.
