  • Wissam Joubran
  • Adnan Joubran

Le Trio Joubran is a Palestinian oud trio. The three brothers have achieved through their development of Arabic folk music and virtuosity of their playing technique international notoriety.

History

The three brothers Samir (born 1973 ), Wissam (* 1983) and Adnan (* 1985) Joubran grew up in a musical family in Nazareth, where the Oudspiel and especially the construction of this instrument had a long tradition that are already on the great-grandfather of the brothers Joubran back. The father of the musician, Hatem Joubran, a well-known Oudbauer and the mother Ibtisam Hanna, a singer began early with the musical education of their sons.

Samir, the eldest of the three brothers, began his career with the first albums Taqaseem (1996) and Sou'fahm ( 2001). He soon gained international notoriety for his virtuoso oud game and started with other well-known artists to work together especially the poet Mahmoud Darwish. His third album, Tamaas, he recorded with his brother Wissam. Wissam Joubran had already developed at this time, following the tradition of his family a reputation as an instrument maker and completed the first Arab student, the renowned Stradivari Conservatory, in Cremona. Since that time, the group lives and works mainly in Paris. Randana (2005) was the first record in a trio setting. Since Majaz (2008), the group is often accompanied by the originating also from Palestine percussionist Yousef Hbeisch.

Music

A special feature of Trio Joubran is in the cast: The oud is usually used only individually in Arabic music. The Joubran brothers put together a first successful three ouds, reminiscent of the guitar trio of John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Paco de Lucía, which they describe as their role models. They combine traditional maqam compositions with Spanish- influenced by Arabic music playing techniques and the jazz -oriented improvisation. The instruments required for the new game, the brothers Wissam Joubran is her own. Often these are special designs with additional bass strings.
