Le Val

Le Val is a commune with 4191 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

History

As early as the Bronze Age, about 2500 BC, people lived in the region. In Les Essartènes near Le Val are to Inscrit Monument Historique explained caves with wall paintings and rock engravings. Later, in the first millennium BC, located Ligurian tribes from the east and from the north invading Celts settled in the region. From their mixing, the Celtic- Ligurian culture that shaped the Provence until the Roman era was born.

Attractions

• Consecrated in 1068 Notre- Dame-de- l'Assomption was originally built in Romanesque style. In the 17th century it was enlarged. The Romanesque nave opens to side chapels from the 17th century. Pillars rise up to its decorated with modillions capitals. The frescoes of the church were restored in the 18th century.
• The pilgrimage chapel of Notre -Dame-de - Pitié was built in 1659. The facade of the protected as a monument historique building is, like that of Sainte-Catherine Chapel decorated with shells. The path to the chapel lined small classified as Monument Historique Inscrit chapels from the 17th century.

Economy

In Le Val is the Studio de Miraval. In this studio numerous productions French and international artists were included. Miraval produced, among others, for AC / DC, The Cure, Pink Floyd, The Cranberries, Indochine and Téléphone.
