Le Valtin

Le Valtin is a commune with 89 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges and Canton Fraize.

Geography

The Municipality of Le Valtin than twelve kilometers northeast of Gerardmer and about 35 kilometers west of Colmar ( straight line ). The village is located in the extreme east of the department in the south-western Vosges. The eastern boundary of the municipality to the Alsace is located on the Vosges ridge, which reached here with the peaks Gazon you Faing, Tanet and Le root stone over 1200 meters above sea level.

The church and the town hall ( Mairie ) are at 762 Merern sea level - Le Valtin, making it the highest community of Lorraine.

The 19.64 km ² large municipality covers the uppermost portion of the Meurthetales. The Meurthe rises at the Col de la gorge in the southern tip of the municipality. The 1139 m high pass is an important traffic route between the regions of Alsace and Lorraine. The valley of the Meurthe is deeply incised into the surrounding heights. The municipal area is predominantly forested, agricultural land in valleys are limited to pasture; some areas above 1000 meters are deforested and used as summer pastures for sheep.

The opening to the north Meurthetal and an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level are in the Vosges mountains as snow.

Neighboring communities of Le Valtin are Plainfaing in the north, Soultzeren in the east, Stosswihr the southeast, La Bresse in southwest and Ban -sur- Meurthe- Clefcy in the northwest.

History

The name appeared as Sant Veltin first documented in the year 1472. The area around Valtin was under the Duke of Lorraine. The eastern part of the former town with widely scattered farms on the upper reaches of the Little Meurthe ( Petite Meurthe ) is today known as Le Grand Valtin a district of the municipality of Ban -sur- Meurthe- Clefcy. From the western part ( Petit- Valtin ), a branch of the bailiwick of Saint- Dié and a pastor of the parish in Fraize today's town of Le Valtin was born.

Valtin initially had only a chapel, founded by the Lords to Rappoltstein. The church, built in 1704 was dedicated to Saint Sylvester. She was part of the Diocese and the Deanery of Saint-Die. The Mairie (Town Hall and former boys ' school building ) was built in 1820, the construction of the girls' school followed in 1864.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculture plays in the upper Meurthegebiet today only a subordinate role. Through the forest wealth in the Vosges forest management has a long tradition. Main industry in the town is tourism today. Many hotels and pensions are particularly booked in the winter ( ski Col de la Gorge, Grand Valtin - Vimbar and Hautes- Navières with several lifts ).

Transport links

Le Valtin lies between the two mountain passes over the Col de la Gorge and the Col du Bonhomme. Another road connects Le Valtin about La Bresse Gerardmer with. A few meters below the Vosges ridge runs the tourist route of the road Crètes be groomed over the partially cross-country skiing in winter.
