Lea Nikel

Lea Nikel ( born 1919 in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, † 24 September 2005 in Moshav Kidron, Israel) was one of the most famous abstract painters and artists of Israel.

Life

Lea Nikel came to Israel in 1920 and grew up in Tel Aviv. She graduated in 1935 with Haim Gliksberg ( 1904-1970 ), 1946/47, at Stematsky Avigdor ( 1908-1989 ) and Yehezkel Streichman ( 1906-1993 ). 1950 to 1961 she lived and worked in Paris, then in New York, Central Africa and Rome. Only in 1977, she returned to Tel Aviv.

Lea Nikel has in the Israeli art scene the nickname " Queen of abstract painting " and " Queen of color and composition ." It was considered a brilliant abstract expressionist; their works are distinguished by precise colors, energy and composition. Works by Lea nickel are found in all prestigious art institutions in the world, including the Tate Gallery in London.

She lived and worked until her death in Moshav Kidron. Lea Nikel is survived by her husband Sam Lehman.
