Lead (IV ) acetate forms colorless, prismatic monoclinic crystals, the smell of moist air to the vinegar. It is the lead salt in the oxidation state IV, acetic acid and is a strong oxidizing agent represents the compound is readily soluble in hot glacial acetic acid. In water, hydrolysis to lead dioxide and acetic acid are mixed.

Production and representation

Lead (IV ) acetate is usually prepared by reaction of red lead ( Lead (II, IV) oxide ) is prepared with hot glacial acetic acid or a mixture of glacial acetic acid and acetic anhydride.

Use

Lead (IV ) acetate is in the organic chemistry, inter alia, as the oxidant for the Criegeesche glycol cleavage or as a dehydrogenation and hydroxylation use.
