Lean Construction

Lean Construction is the adaptation of the derived from the Toyota Production System Lean principles to the construction sector. Besides the name Lean Construction Lean management is the term used in the construction industry.

Definition

During the creation of a construction project lived continuous process for the removal of waste, which meet or exceed all customer expectations, focusing on the entire value stream and the pursuit of perfection. This Lean Construction considers the entire life cycle of a building from the planning to the construction and use up to redesignation and decommissioning.

Lean Construction

Lean Construction is an integral approach to the planning, design and execution of construction projects. The roots of Lean Construction (LC ) are the Lean Production, which has the design and planning of the processes in the production, procurement and installation revolutionized literally in some sectors of the economy. Based on Lean Construction are also approaches of Lean Thinking, which depend on the value creation process in order to maximize value and minimize waste in the processes. Using specific techniques and tools, such as the Last Planner System, the Lean philosophy is transferred to the planning and execution of construction projects. The application of Lean Construction is characterized by:

  • The planning and execution processes to be viewed holistically and designed to meet the clients needs better.
  • The work is thoroughly organized through the entire process so that the value for the customer is maximized and wastage is reduced.
  • The optimization efforts are focused on improving the overall performance of the project, rather than on the optimization of individual areas.
  • Processes are proactively managed to reduce variances in the performance of individual process steps and thus provide a steady flow of production.

Last Planner System

The Last Planner System is a specially designed for the construction industry project management tool for the implementation of Lean thinking. The aim is to improve the reliability of processes through structured, proactive and cooperative planning with the inclusion of the last planner ( "Last Planner "). In the construction example, these are the foremen of trades working. The Last Planner System is applicable in planning and construction.
