Lean on Me (song)

Lean on Me is a song by Bill Withers from 1972, which was written and produced by him. It appeared on the album Still Bill.

Genesis

Bill Withers, even without much experience as a musician, wrote the song after he had made on a just- purchased or acquired Wurlitzer Electric Piano Finger Exercises and a certain finger position reminded him of the hymns of his youth. As an inspiration to the text served Bill Withers childhood in Slab Fork, West Virginia. He wrote the song after his move to Los Angeles, where he missed the human. The text is based on the sense of community that he had felt during his childhood in his hometown.

On the recordings former members of the band Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm were with James Gadson (drums), Ray Jackson (keyboards), Benorce Blackman (guitar) and Melvin Dunlop ( bass) involved band. The publication took place on 21 April 1972.

Cover version by Club Nouveau

1987 the Club Nouveau on the classics. The publication took place on 20 March 1987 in the United States, Canada and New Zealand version was a number -one hit. With this version Withers won at the Grammy Awards 1988 Grammy as a songwriter.
