Lear Corporation ( NYSE: LEA) is a global automotive supplier based in Southfield ( Michigan), United States.

The company has focused its activities in the field of interior systems for automobiles and is considered the world's fifth largest supplier to the auto industry. In 2007, sales totaled approximately 16 billion U.S. dollars. The company employs approximately 113,000 employees in more than 221 manufacturing facilities that are scattered over 36 countries.

The story of Lear can be traced back to the year 1917. In 1996, the company received its current name during the IPO.

The Lear Wackersdorf plant, founded in 1995, manufactures the sofas for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 3 series and delivers them just in sequence to the BMW plant in Regensburg. Leave some 300,000 carsets the plant every year, it is considered one of the benchmark works.

On 1 July 2009, Lear Corporation applied for creditor protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Lear's operations outside the U.S. and Canada are not affected.
