Garden tyrant ( Empidonax minimus )

The garden tyrant ( Empidonax minimus ) is a small, insect -eating bird of the tyrant flycatcher family. It is the smallest member of the genus Empidonax in eastern North America. The English name is Least Flycatcher. Occasionally he is also called by his Ruflaut Chebec.

The parents have an olive - gray colored upper body. On the wings and tail of this shade is darker. The underside of the upper body is whitish. Remarkable are the white circles and white stripes on the wings. The beak is relatively small and the tail relatively short. On the sides of the abdomen is colored slightly yellow.

The habitat is open deciduous forests or mixed forests of the northern United States and Canada. The cup-shaped nest is built in a crotch of a small tree. Most sit the birds in the lower to middle of a tree on a branch and fly from there to catch insects in flight. Also, insects are picked from foliage in flight. Occasionally they also eat berries.

The garden attracts tyrant in winter to Mexico and Central America.
