The Lebanese American University (under the name Lebanese American University, LAU also known ) is a private university in Beirut.

It originated as American School for Girls from the American Presbyterian Mission, which was founded in 1835. From 1924 has been out of school a two-year Junior Women's College and from 1948 to 1949 a four-year women's college with the academic degree of Bachelor (Beirut College for Women ). From 1973, this institution was named after the admission of male students renamed " Beirut University College ." In 1994, the name in Lebanese American University ( Lebanese American University) has been renamed.

The language of instruction for all courses at LAU is English except for Arabic literature and foreign language courses. In the year 2005 6.000 students were enrolled. In 2012 there were 8,138 students, of whom 33.7% were studying at the Faculty of Economics and 30 % for Arts and Sciences ( Arts & Sciences ). The university has seven faculties (also called Schools ):
