Lebanese general election, 2005

The elections in Lebanon in 2005 were the first elections that have taken place for thirty years without Syrian presence in Lebanon.

The Lebanese selected 128 members of parliament, where Christians and Muslims are represented in equal strength. Many Lebanese felt that the elections, which were won by a run of Saad al -Hariri anti -Syrian coalition, marked the completion of the Cedar Revolution. These elections were the first elections in the history of Lebanon, which were obtained directly by a single electoral bloc and also the first to be observed by the United Nations. Many Lebanese parties could begin.
