Lecanto is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 5,882 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Lecanto is about 10 km west of Inverness, and 100 km north of Tampa. The CDP is crossed by the Florida State Road 44.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 5,882 inhabitants distributed to 2,509 households. The population density was 84 inh. / Km ². 92.0 % of the population were white, 4.1% African American, 0.2% Native American and 1.4% Asian Americans. 0.8 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.5 % of various ethnicities. 4.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 44.1 % of all households lived in 23.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 68.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.36 persons and the average family size is 2.76 people.

19.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.2% were 20-39 years old, 29.4 % were 40-59 years old and 32.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 49 years. 52.7 % of the population were male and 47.3 % female.

The average annual income was $ 44,427, while 10.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.03 % of the population spoke Spanish 6.55% and 1.42 % had a different mother tongue.
