Lech Garlicki

Lech Garlicki and Leszek Garlicki ( born August 23, 1946 in Warsaw) is a Polish lawyer and since June 26, 2002 Judge at the European Court of Human Rights.

Life

In 1968 he completed his studies at the Warsaw University and became an assistant at the Faculty of Law and Administration. In 1973 he received his doctorate in 1980 and ibid appointed associate professor. Also starting in 1980 - to 1993 - he worked as a freelance lawyer. In 1987 he was appointed full professor of law. In the same year he became a member of the Council for Legal Affairs of the Polish Prime Minister. 1992 to 1994 he was director of the Institute for American Studies at the University of Warsaw. On 26 June 2002 he was appointed as successor to Jerzy Makarczyk, which prematurely resigned from his office, was elected judge at the European Court of Human Rights.

Garlicki is a founding member of the European Law Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to the legal research and the improvement of European law is devoted to with the aim to join the European integration in the field of European law constructive.
