Ledisi
Ledisi Anibade Young ( born March 28, 1972 in New Orleans) is an American R & B singer.
Biography
Ledisis mother was a singer of an R & B band in New Orleans and she sang eight years with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. When she moved to California with her family, she joined a band himself and eventually founded his own group. She also sang in musicals and plays, for the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz 1990 was nominated for a Shellie Award.
In the 90s, she founded the five-piece backing band Anibade, named after her middle name, and gained some notoriety in the area around San Francisco. As it did not work with a record contract with a major label, she released her first album Soul Singer ( 2000) self-published and marketed it themselves via the Internet.
The breakthrough came in 2007 with the album Ledisi Lost & Found. It was released on Verve / Universal and reached # 10 in the U.S. R & B charts. In the Billboard 200, it stayed 22 weeks. It also spawned several R & B hit songs. For this she was in 2008 twice, for Best Newcomer and Best R & B Album, nominated at the Grammy Awards.
Two years later, she stood with Turn Me Loose then already No. 1 on the R & B album charts and was again nominated twice for a Grammy for best album and the song Goin ' Thru Changes for the best performance in the category of R & B.
The follow-up album Pieces of Me was published in 2011. Thus they went into the Top 10 in the official charts which she received three Grammy nominations in the R & B, one for the album and two for the title song.
