Through a petition to the General Assembly ( Parliamentary Assembly ) of the former Iowa - territory the administrative headquarters was moved by a decision of the General Assembly to West Point. The city agreed to build a new judicial and administrative building until 1844. However, this did not materialize, so the administration stayed in Fort Madison.
