Lee County (Mississippi)

The Lee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tupelo.

The County is located in northeastern Mississippi, is in the east about 40 miles from Alabama, located in the north about 60 miles from Tennessee and has an area of 1174 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Lee County was formed on October 26, 1866 from parts of Itawamba County and Pontotoc County. It was named after Robert Edward Lee, a colonel in the U.S. Army and the most successful general of the armed forces of the Confederate States of America. His most important command during the Civil War was the supreme command of the Army of Northern Virginia.
