Lee James

Lee Roy James ( born October 31, 1953 in Gulfport, Miss. , USA ) is a former American professional weightlifter. He won a silver medal in the middle heavyweight at the 1976 Olympic Games.

Career

Lee James began as a teenager with weight lifting and joined after the first successes at the national level the BBC York, where he was coached by Karl Faeth. In the National Team, in which he recorded in 1974, Dick Smith was his coach.

In his first start of the U.S. Championships for seniors in 1974, he finished in a light heavyweight at 300 kg ( 135-165 ) challenges the 4th place behind Tom Hirtz, 307.5 kg, Sam Bigler, 302.5 kg and Russell Knipp, 302.5 kg. That same year he competed in the Pan American Championships and finished there with 300 kg of behind the Cubans Lopez, who erzietlte 302.5 kg, the 2nd place. Also at the World Cup 1974 in Manila, he was employed and took there 305 kg ( 137.5 to 167.5 ) the 8th Place.

1975 James Lee scored at the U.S. Championships Light Heavyweight 312.5 kg ( 142.5 to 170 ) and thus came up behind Peter Rawluk, who also scored 312.5 kg, but a little lighter than he was, on the 2nd place. At the Pan American Games in 1975 in Mexico City, he could return the favor to the Cubans Lopez and won with 315 kg the championship. Lopez scored 312.5 kg. Lee James moved to the World Championship in the middle heavyweight and has seen a big jump in power in this weight class. In 1976 he became U.S. champion with 355 kg ( 160-195 ) in a duel and defeated so Phil Grippaldi who came to 345 kg and clear. At the Olympic Games in Montreal, he was able to 362.5 kg ( 165 to 197.5 ) increase in single combat and won so quite surprisingly behind the towering David Rigert from the USSR, 382.5 kg ( 170 to 212.5 ) but before Atanas Shopov from Bulgaria, 360 kg ( 155-200 ), the Olympic silver medal.

After these Olympics, Lee James injured his right knee and was able to complete no -offs in 1977. 1978 but he managed a comeback when he again American middleweight champion heavy weight was 355 kg ( 160-195 ). They provided the same service shortly after the Tournament of Friendship in Moscow, where he finished with this result behind Adam Saidulajew, USSR, 275 kg, the 2nd place.

Shortly thereafter joined him again knee problems that are of such a serious turned out that he had to end his weightlifting career, which actually was still on top, with 25 years.
