Lee Roy Parnell

Lee Roy Parnell II ( born December 21, 1956 in Abilene, Texas ) is an American country singer, songwriter and blues guitarist.

Childhood and youth

Lee Roy was already in early childhood with country music in touch. His father was a friend of Bob Wills and Lee Roy was already six years old with the big star on stage. His first instrument was drums, but he soon switched to guitar. He was influenced naturally by Bob Wills and thus on the Western Swing. But the country-blues of the Allman Brothers impressed him deeply. The guitarist Duane Allman was his most important role model. From him he took over the slide guitar style. After graduating, he moved to Austin and earned his livelihood in the local club scene. His grueling Austin lasted over ten years; he married and worked for a time at a local radio station.

Career

After his divorce and burdened by alcohol problems, he tried in 1987 in Nashville a new beginning. Initially he had some success as a songwriter and then managed to set up a band. Its ever-growing popularity in the local music scene led in 1989 to a recording contract with Arista Records. A year later he released his first album, which contained several original compositions. He had his breakthrough in 1992 with the single What Kind Of Fool Do You Think I Am, which reached number two on the country charts. His recent second album the same year, Love Without Mercy, sold much better than the first. Some uncoupled singles were able to place in the top 10. A number of well-known country music musicians interpret his songs.

1994 reached Lee Roy Parnell I'm Holding My Own for the first time with the top of the country charts. It was followed by other singles that could place high in the charts as well. A Little Bit Of You and Heart's Desire 1995 reached number 1 From 1997, its sales were down significantly. In 2000 he moved to Vanguard Records, where in 2001 the album Tell The Truth appeared.
