Lee Sang-il (film director)

Lee Sang- il ( born January 6, 1974 in Niigata, Japan) is a Japanese director of Korean origin.

After studying at the Kanagawa University, he graduated from the Japanese Film Academy. His graduation film at this bore the title Ao - Chong and was honored at the festival Pia film with the main prize. With the support of this film festival his first feature film Border Line followed in 2002. This is dedicated to, as already Ao - Chong, the identity of the Korean minority in Japan.

With 69 sixty nine in 2004 he filmed an autobiographical novel by Ryu Murakami. This was his first work for a big studio ( Toei ). After the drama Scrap Heaven ( 2005) finally came in 2006, his film Hula Girls out in which young women are trying to revive their city and boost tourism by readjust Hawaii. The film was honored with numerous awards and brought Lee two Japanese Academy Awards and a Kinema Jumpo a price. Even more successful at the Japanese Academy Awards was his next film, Villain (2010), who won five of its nine nominations.
