Lee Santana

Lee Santana ( born 1959 in Florida) is an American lutenist and composer. He lives and works in Germany since 1984.

Life

Training

After he had played as a child and teenager rock and jazz guitar, Lee Santana dedicated as a student of classical guitar. Increasingly fascinated him early music and historical instruments, especially the lute. He concentrated on his studies at Emerson College ( Longy School of Music) in Boston, Massachusetts, so to historical performance practice and early music. The lute he studied with Patrick O'Brien and Stephen Stubbs, composition with Richard Cornell.

Artistic work

In 1984 he moved to Germany, where he has lived ever since as a freelance composer and lutenist. Lee Santana in concert with the ensemble The Harp Consort, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, with the recorder player Maurice Steger and his wife, the gamba player Hille Perl, as a duo or in the formation Los Otros.

Publications

Their 2001 release, a CD with compositions for lute and viola da gamba Lee Santana under the title " The Star and the Sea" on the label Carpe Diem Records. The same label in 2008 was followed by another CD, " Cradle of Conceits ", with music for lute, cittern and bandora by Anthony Holborne. When Sony released the 2010 CD Philip Martino, according trios and in 2011 the solo CD Pentagram, with works by Lee Santana, Johann Sebastian. Bach and Nicholas Vallet. With soprano Dorothee Mields and gamba player Hille Perl in 2009 released the CD ' In darkness let mee dwell ' with works by John Dowland, and in 2010 the CD ' Loves alchemy ', for which the trio received the Echo Klassik Prize. In November 2011, the Cd ' hire us peace mercifully ' appeared with the ensemble SIRIUS VIOLS and soprano Anna Maria Friman.
