Lee Stack

Sir Lee Oliver Fitzmaurice Stack ( * 1868, † November 20, 1924 ) was a British Major General, Governor-General of Anglo -Egyptian Sudan and Sirdar ( commander ) of the Egyptian Army.

Life

Lee Stack joined in 1888 Border Regiment in the British Army a. From 1902 he served in the Sudan and in 1909 was promoted to Major. He was entrusted with some civilian administrative positions in Sudan By Reginald Wingate. After Wingate had become British High Commissioner for Egypt, he took over his post as Governor General of the Sudan. The function of the Governor General, was associated with the Sirdar of the Egyptian army since Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener of Khartoum. On November 19, 1924, he was mortally wounded in Cairo by Egyptian nationalists and died the next day. Because of his assassination the UK government exerted political pressure on Egypt, who had to resign Saad Zaghlul Pasha on November 24, 1924 episode.
