Leeds Carnegie

( Officially known Leeds Carnegie Rugby Union Football Club until 2007 as the Leeds Tykes ) Leeds Carnegie is an English rugby union team playing in the RFU Championship, the second English league. The home games are played at Headingley Stadium. Leeds Carnegie is part of the company's Leeds Rugby Limited, which also includes the rugby league team Leeds Rhinos heard. 51 percent of the shares are owned by the Leeds Metropolitan University.

History

The tradition- rich clubs from the suburbs of Headingley (founded in 1877) and Roundhay (founded 1924) merged in 1991 and formed the new club Leeds Rugby Union Football Club. During his first season at Leeds RUFC played in the National Division Three, the fourth- highest English league. In the 1997/98 season, the team's promotion to the second highest league, the former Premiership Two.

In July 1998 there was a further merger, as the Leeds RUFC with the rugby league club Leeds Rhinos merged. The team was now called Leeds Tykes (the term Tyke describes a typical inhabitants of the county of Yorkshire ). In 2001 she was promoted to the Premiership.
