The Leer ( Ostfriesland) station is a through station in the town of Leer ( Ostfriesland). It has a reception building and three used by passenger trains tracks ( a central platform and a house platform). A bus, bicycle stands, taxi stands and parking for cars combine it with other means of transportation. In addition to the persons tracks there are still some sidings at the station premises.

History

In the year 1854/55 received a blank station, when the city was connected to the Hanoverian Western Railway from Emden to Rheine. On the plans for the years 1852 to 1855 had the Hanoverian architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase influence, possibly Adolph radio. The post office first settled in the new building and opened here the first telegraph station, involved 1885/86 but close to station its own building. The rail connection to Oldenburg and thus to Bremen took place on June 15, 1869 and consisted of 55.01 km. On November 26, 1876, the extension to Neuschanz (26 km) was put into operation.

In 1955 the central bus station (ZOB). In 1992 the railway line Leer -Oldenburg was electrified.

Architecture

Today, large-scale, symmetrical building, dating back to 1855, consists of five parts. It was built in romanesque style of historicism. The two-story, cube-shaped building outside and in the center are characterized by prominent corner pilaster strips made ​​of sandstone and wide sandstone bands and completed by shallow hipped roofs. On the front and back provide on each floor three round-arched windows, the building with light. The lower Zwischenbauten are on the street side on one level, have the track side, but on a second row of windows. Here pilasters divide fields, in each of which two arched windows are installed. The main entrance is located in a shallow porch in front of the center of the building.

To date, there are at Leer Bahnhof neither escalators or elevators, so it is very difficult for wheelchair users or passengers with prams, bikes or heavy luggage to reach all the tracks.
