Leesburg is a village in Highland County, Ohio, United States. At the 2000 census the town had 1,253 inhabitants, 98.5 % were white.
History
Leesburg was founded in 1801 by Nathanial Pope, John Walters and John Howard. Since 1802, meeting of the Quakers in Leesburg are detectable. 1806 a sawmill and 1814 a hotel was built. With Dr. Havilah Beardsley Leesburg decreed in 1816 for the first time about a doctor. 1830 a steam mill in Leesburg was built. In 1841 there were sermons of the Baptists. In 1852, Methodists, and in 1879 also Seventh- day Adventist Church established themselves in the place. 1867 two school houses were built. 1876 Leesburg bank was founded.
Education
In Leesburg is the Fairfield Local High School. The place has the Leesburg Library through a local library.
Religion
The town has three churches.
Personalities
- John Dustin Archbold (1848-1916), industrialist and one of the first oil magnates of the U.S., was born here.
