Leezdorf

Leezdorf is a municipality with 1831 inhabitants in the Samtgemeinde Brookmerland in the district of Aurich in East Friesland.

History

Leezdorf one of the youngest towns in the Brookmerlandes. It was not until 1765, after the " Urbarmachungsgesetz " an intensive settlement made ​​it possible to subject the first Moor colonists in the newly created place.

In the fall of 1793 came at Leezdorf after a very rainy summer with strong rainfalls led to a moors outbreak. Here, some 57 hectares has been spilled already partly cultivated or loam for the cultivation bog surface.

1869 Leezdorf eventually became independent by being diverted at the request of Osteel and the council had given its approval.
