The County is located in the central northwestern Mississippi and has an area of 1570 square kilometers, of which 37 square kilometers are water surface. History

The Leflore County was formed on March 15, 1871 from parts of Carroll, Sunflower and Tallahatchie County. It was named, as well as the district capital, according to Greenwood LeFlore, a Choctaw chief of the.
