Left colic artery

The middle colic artery vein ( "left colonic artery ") is a branch of the lower intestine artery ( inferior mesenteric artery or caudal ). She shares shortly after the origin in an ascending ( ascending ramus ) and a descending branch ( descending branch ). The ascending branch anastomoses with the middle colic artery media, this connection is called Arcus Riolani, the descending sigmoid with the artery.

The middle colic artery artery supplies the descending colon and the distal third of the transverse colon.
