Leggia

Leggia is a municipality in the district of Roveredo in the district Moesa the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

The coat of arms symbolizes the coronation of Clovis by the patron saint of the local chapel of San Remigio ( Remigius ).

Geography

The village is located about 15 km northeast of Bellinzona on a terrace on the right bank of the Moesa. The municipality extends over the valley and the mountainous landscape on the left side of the Moësa up to Pizzo Paglia ( 2,593 m above sea level. M. ) on the border with Italy. Of the total area of 915 ha community 585 ha of forest or woodlands are covered, many chestnut trees. A further 226 ha are unproductive area, mostly mountains. The remainder consists of 79 hectares of agricultural land and 25 ha settlement area.

Population

From the end of 2004 115 inhabitants were 111 ( = 96.52 %), Swiss citizen.

Policy

The mayor is Efrem Biondini (2010 ).

Economy

The inhabitants lived earlier of meadow cultivation, animal husbandry, vegetable growing and viticulture. Today, there are a number of commuters in the near economic area Bellinzona, which work in the industry or in the service sector.

Traffic

The community is connected to the network of public transport through the postal car price Bellinzona Mesocco ( San Bernadino ).

The village lies on the main route from Bellinzona to Chur over the San Bernadino. The A13 motorway runs through the community. The nearest motorway junction is in Roveredo.

History

The community shared the fate of the entire Misox. The area belonged in the Middle Ages until the Lords of Bregenz, and then the Earl of Sax - Misox. After they had sold the region to a Milanese count, the municipalities were in 1496 for self-protection the Grisons horror Confederation in 1549 and bought themselves free.

Education

The children of Leggia attend primary school in Cama. The secondary school they attend in Roveredo.

Attractions

  • The village church of Sant'Antonio e Bernardo dates from 1513, was expanded in 1610 and is a listed building.
  • The chapel of San Remigio from the year 1219 is on the other side of the valley.
