Legião Urbana

Legião Urbana ( "Urban Legion" ) was one of the most successful rock bands in Brazil. She played from 1982 until the death of their singer Renato Russo in 1996.

History of the band

Legião Urbana was founded in 1982 in Brasília by Renato Russo, Marcelo Bonfá, Eduardo Paraná and Paulo Paulista. However, Eduardo Paraná and Paulo Paulista left the band after a few performances. They were replaced by Renato Rocha and Dado Villa -Lobos ( with a brief interlude of Ico- Ouro Preto ), which the band took their classic and best-known cast. Only from 1984 to 1989 the band had with Pedro Rocha is another bass player. Led by Renato Russo rose Legião Urbana on one of the most important figures in Brazilian music scene. As Renato Russo died in 1996, decided the remaining members of Legião Urbana, dissolve the band.

Legião Urbana was also considered a post-punk band. As influences The Smiths and their singer Morrissey called.
