Legionellales

Legionella pneumophila

Legionellales are an order of Proteobacteria, which consists of two families. As with all proteobacteria are Gram-negative bacteria.

Occurrence

Within the Legionellales parasites of various protozoa, invertebrates ( invertebrates ) and insects are represented, some are pathogenic for humans. The respective species are mostly intracellular parasites, ie within host cells alive. Coxiella burnetii, the causative agent of Q fever ( query fever ), here is an obligate intracellular, outside of host cells can not reproduce. Transmission after Coxiella burnetii usually airborne by inhalation. Apart from the people affects the way arthropods such as ticks and also comes in animals, such as Dogs or cattle before. Outside host cells, the bacterium takes a rest position to a few months and remains infectious.

The species Legionella pneumophila causes Legionnaires' disease. The bacterium Legionella pneumophila was discovered at a meeting of legionaries after an occurrence of pneumonia and the appropriately named.

System

The order consists of the following families and genera:

  • Legionellaceae Fluoribacter
  • Legionella
  • Tatlockia
  • Coxiellaceae Aquicella
  • Coxiella
  • Rickettsiella

The genera Fluoribacter and Tatlockia are to be regarded as controversial, the name is rarely used. The various representatives are generally considered to be species of Legionella. The type Sarcobium lyticum was renamed Legionella lytica. The genus was formerly Rickettsiella to the genus Wolbachia in the group ( tribe ) Wolbachieae Rickettsiaceae the family asked.
