Legrand (company)

The Legrand SA is a publicly traded French company with headquarters in Limoges. The company is active in electrical engineering and is a world leader in low voltage products for the construction and networks.

History

The company's history dates back to 1860.

In 2001, Legrand was taken over by the competitors Schneider Electric in a public takeover; but the European competition authorities said ultimately the acquisition and Schneider had Legrand to the private equity investors Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR ) and Wendel Investissement resell. After the stock market re-introduction in April 2006, KKR and Wendel even hold each 31 percent of the shares (as of May 2009).
